3Product works, but poorly made  Mar 28, 2011 By Max
I purchased this cord so I could use it with an iPod dock in my car. The dock was too small for my phone to fit because it has an OtterBox cover. The cord works just fine, and it is nice that it is long enough to extend from the glovebox to the driver's seat so I can use the phone while it is still plugged in. My only issue with the item is that it was obviously poorly constructed because after less than 1 day of (very gentle!) use the part where the the cord meets the hook up to plug into the phone came loose and the wires exposed. After this I was able to push it back together and repair with some electrical tape and it still works as intended. I hoped, however, that after paying $20 for a cord (which I think is a lot) that it would be something well-made.

5Works Great With Car Systens  Dec 04, 2010 By Tensix
I have been looking for a cable that will extend my OEM iPod integration in my 2010 Challenger and this cable did the trick. I have bought four other cables and none of them have allowed me to control or even recognize my iPhone. If you are looking for a cable for a great price that works pick XTG!

5This is the one you want!  Dec 09, 2010 By M. Miller "M.D. Miller"
I've been looking for just the right cable to pair my Ipod Touch 2g equipped with a Otter Box, an boy this is it. I've tried 3 others from big box stores, and the large shack and not one of them had the fit, finish and functionality of this device. It fits, it works great, and while new for certain looks sturdy.

I've done the work, this is the one you want.

PS...love the Otter box too, other than having to use a cable or 'un-box' it to use a dock.

5Love the dock extension  May 05, 2011 By Dock man
Since I purchased my three cables, some reviews have come in about the casings coming apart. Yes, they may, one of mine did, however, a touch of super glue and they're golden. When the first case opened, I took all others apart and glued them. Yes I know $20 is much to pay for something new that is defective and comes apart; however, if there was something better, I would have bought it. A little glue and you're fine. Hopefully Amazon and the Manufacturer will read these reviews and fix the problem, because, from the other reviews of the same product offered by other vendors, this is the only cable the works, even if it falls apart....

My extensions work great. Upon reviewing other cables on the web, many people experienced problems with other products not even working, no case issues. This cable had the only reviews that said the cable worked, so I bought it. My cable works with both my iPhone 4 and iPod Classic, on Sony and iHome docking units that I own. I concur with the first reviewer, whom helped me make a decision to buy mine. I use the extension every day in my office, currently I am using it as I compose this review to listen to radio via my iPhone 4.

For me, it is important the cable works, which it does. If you do order one for docking, glue it before using it. Put the glue around the outside seam if you don't want to open the case. Or, use a small piece if tape, cut in half and go all the way around each case.

If you do decide to open the case, be careful, there are two tiny clips on the sides that compress to release the cable from the iPhone or iPod. These clips will fall out easily. Perhaps if they fall out, no great loss, just glue the case together and continue using it. To open the case on either end, firmly hold the case and gently lift up on the cable and the connector,it should begin separating. Stop here, keep it partially separated, and lightly dab the super glue along the edge and then snap it back together again. With super glue, less is more. Dab the glue between the seams with a pin or paper clip. "LITTLE" dabs of glue, you don't need much, glue, and you don't have to cover the whole seam.

Or contact Amazon and return the purchase; however, you'll still not solved the problem of having a convenient way to dock the device. Personally, I don't enjoy the hassle of returning stuff if a quick fix will do.

Another thing, someone mentioned in a review somewhere that they had to file down the connector for the cable to work with the iPhone "OTTER" case. I would like to suggest that the case be filed down so the connector will fit. I don't use the Otter case, but, filing the case seems more logical of a choice then filing the cable connector, as the case has more room for error. If you are thinking about which iPhone 4 case to buy, hands-down, the Griffin Military spec case is the best, $50. When I bought my iPhone 4 in March 2011, I purchased both Otter and Griffin cases and gave away the Otter case. All connectors work with the Griffin case, no filing. Go to the store and open each box and you'll see what I mean.

I really like my dock extension, because I don't have to remove my phone from the case, and potentially drop it on the floor in the transition. Hope this has been helpful.

5Cool product  Nov 16, 2010 By Mat W.
I have 2 systems that I wanted to use this cable for. In my car, I have an iPod interface, but the cable in the glovebox is too short to actually be able to access my phone while it's plugged in. This extension cable makes it so much easier for me and my passengers to access my iPod while it's plugged in. When I want to pull it out of the glovebox and use it, I don't have to worry about ripping the cable out because I pulled it out too far. It's also awesome for my stereo at home! All the wiring runs from behind the stereo, so I don't have much room to play with my iPod when I am listening to music. With this extension my life is way easier and I can actually enjoy my iPod while it's plugged in. The actual connector fits perfectly into my iPod and there is no compromise of sound quality. Thanks for a great product!
