Description

Get ready to experience an exciting new level of sound, style and comfort with Exceed earphones. Run, bike, workout, board or just relax to your favorite tunes with the confidence your earphones will remain in place. AURIA's XFit system is designed to solve the number one complaint about earphones – that they fall out too easily. XFit is based on the use of ultra-soft, ergonomically-shaped LOBES that gently conform to the flexible portions of outer ears – the tragus and anti-tragus. ECO rings are part of the XFit system and are designed to individualize the fit by positioning the speakers properly to maximum comfort and audio performance. Custom-engineered speakers to produce premium-level audio. Hand-selected speaker components deliver deeper bass, richer vocals and sweeter highs. Breathy vocals, rousing guitar riffs and heart-thumping bass come to life. Our design team researched and tested every aspect of the earphones to make sure that they perform in a wide variety of sporting and active-lifestyle activities such as running, skiing, hiking or merely commuting to a school or job. The sleek Inline Control & Microphone requires only a finger touch to adjust volume. A textured Function button enables control of Music and Video (Advance track, Restart track, and Go back one track) plus Pause and Answer/End call for the iPhone 3GS/3G and other mobile phones. The integrated Microphone can be used for hands-free calls and Voice Control when connected to iPhone 3GS/3G, Blackberry and other mobile phones. Select Personalizers to reflect your personal style, team affiliation, college or fashion. Personalizers swap out in seconds and change the exterior appearance of your earphones. An extremely soft mesh carrying case is designed to hold your earphones, accessories and most smartphones or MP3 players, including the iPhone 3G/3GS with slim case.

4Comfortable, light, large, bass doesn't come through  Jun 02, 2010 By J. Donaldson "Cal-diver"
I bought these primarily because I wanted to replace the Apple iPod Touch 3G earphones that didn't last long. I like the Apple earphones with the microphone, volume control, and control button in the cord. Sadly however my experience with Apple earphones is the sound quality deteriorates very quickly so I won't buy Apple replacements. These earphones were one of very few on the market with all the functionality of the Apple earphones.

To me they are quite comfortable and they do stay in my ears better than any others I've had. I used them today while shoveling in the garden and they stayed in place. The sound quality is good but as they are not tight against my ears (the main reason they are so comfortable) the bass doesn't transmit well. If I push them against my ears the bass is fine. I have the iPod Touch equalizer set to Bass Booster. I suppose it depends a lot on one's individual ear shape so this may just be my problem. I tried all four sets of "ECO" rings included and none improved this issue for me.

They are much larger than I expected them to be and I think they could be designed to be smaller and still provide he same stable comfort. I think they look a little obnoxious due to the size of the back which is almost 7/8" in diameter and 1 5/8" top to bottom. I don't find the Apple earphones to be uncomfortable and they are much smaller.

The slide volume and button share the same indentation so it is hard to find the button as it is recessed and smooth. It might benefit from a design change such as a point in the middle that might make it easier to feel. I worry that the slide volume will move by rubbing against my shirt but it doesn't seem to so far. The volume control could benefit from some sort of bump too as it is smooth and a little hard to locate without looking directly at it. If the control module was oval it would be easier to handle than round. Its difficult to figure out where the buttons are because the buttons blend in with the round shape.

I made a Skype call and the quality was good on both ends.

So as a replacement for the Apple earphones it does provide all of the functionality, they are comfortable, the sound quality is quite good save for the bass problem. The build quality is good and the cord seems to resist tangling. I stuffed them into my pocket and when I pulled them out they just fell open without a single tangle.

I would buy these again, if I couldn't find something better, and I think the $29 price tag is quite reasonable. I recommend them save for the little caveats mentioned above. I wish AURIA would offer another model without the fancy XFit system, smaller, with a few design adjustments - basically I'd like an Apple alternative.

One comment for those who already own these earphones, or for those who are purchasing: The earphones are marked Left and Right with an L and R on the outside. At a glance they look to be symmetrical but they aren't. It is important to have them on the correct ear or they won't stay in place as well.

Reading through my own review it seems I made a lot of negative comments but gave the item 4 stars which seems odd. I do think they are worth the 4 stars. I would just hope for a few small design adjustments.

4Finally found earphones for running.  May 19, 2010 By Ralph H
I've wasted too money on earphones for running. Even the ones designed by Nike would fall out of my ears. I bought these earphones the day before the Broad Street Run (a 10 mile run). I was nervous about wearing new headphones during a race, but they stayed in the whole race. Now I am training for a half marathon and these headphones are perfect. Even on my longest runs, they stay in place and I don't have to worry about them.

I had to read the instructions to learn how to put them in correctly (I have to "twist" them in), but once I do, they don't move. When I run I can barely feel them and have to touch them to know they are there.

5Best 30 bucks ever spent!  May 16, 2010 By LLK
I bought these at the runner's expo for the Cleveland Marathon and tried them out for the first time the next day at the race. These earphones are FANTASTIC. I have small ears and while my iPod earbuds work okay, sometimes they make my ears sore and the right one wants to fall out. I didn't think these would work at first, but when I tried them on, they were super comfortable. And at the race? I completely forgot I was even wearing them. They didn't move an inch, never slipped, and the sounds quality is great. I love having the volume control on the wire, as well as the ability to pause, advance, and rewind tracks so I don't have to fumble with my iPod in my belt while running. (this feature didn't work with my older generation Nano, but worked just fine with my iPod Touch) A solid product at a great price that I will definitely tell all of my running friends about!

2Decent headphones, but that's it.  Apr 15, 2010 By Austin Barrow
The Good:
The earphones work fine, and were not too expensive. They have a great durable feeling cord that many headphones I have used and seen in the past lack.

The not so Good:
The "Innovated xFit System" doesn't seem to keep the ear buds in my ears any better than the standard ear buds I got from Apple. During my run or workout I am constantly readjusting the buds to keep them firmly in my ear. They come with 3 different size rings but that doesn't seem to make a difference.

They are also quite a bit bigger and heavier then what I thought they were going to be which might contribute to them constantly falling out.

The InLine control is not the most easy to use in that when I use the button to change or pause a song I inadvertently hit the volume control, either silencing the song or blasting it out the buds.

Next time I will either be purchase in-ear or on-ear headphones. They are not bad, but hardly the device to be used for "rigorous activities".

1Poor quality  Jul 13, 2010 By Nicholas Browning
I purchased these and within a few days noticed that the sound volume and quality varied depending on how I moved the 3.5 mm input on the iPhone. If I jiggled the wire, the volume would go up and down, and I had plenty of people asking me to speak up and then tell me I was yelling when I re-plugged in the headphones. I doubt the 90 degree bend and internal wiring is high-quality. For $30, I expect better.
