5Perfect for iPhone/Otterbox Defender after 2 minutes  May 03, 2010 By Percival Puddle
As stated in an earlier review, this extension cable works perfectly with the iPhone (3GS) and Otterbox Defender case. Just a few notes on compatibility:

- It only takes a couple of minutes to file down the width of the cord to match the Otterbox Defender case. The plug actually has two little buttons on the side that you press in to retract the side prongs and remove it from the iPhone. You do not need to file the entire side of the plug--just the portion past the buttons (a very small segment of the plug). I filed up to about halfway up the side button on one side, but mostly avoided the button on the other side. Using a typical nail file on the soft plastic takes only two minutes to shave off the necessary width.

- The extension cable works perfectly for charging and audio. I use this with my FM transmitter adapter and lighter port mini USN charger, so that I can transmit my iPhone 3GS sound to my car speaker system. All three devices work together well, so that I have crystal clear audio (internet radio over 3G, podcasts, or iPod collection) and constant power as long as my car is in operation, all without taking my iPhone out of the Otterbox Defender case!

- Also tried using this extension cable with the iPhone 3GS charger and it worked perfectly, so this cable seems to work in every way desired.

Thanks for this reasonably priced and very functional product!

5Works with Bose Sound Dock & iPad  Apr 22, 2010 By J. M. Cox
Worked perfectly to play iPad through the Bose sound dock. The iPad doesn't charge in that configuration but it doesn't nag about it.

5Iphone /Otterbox  Apr 14, 2010 By Iphone accessory user "Iphone accessory user"
I just received my dock extender today in the mail. I am very pleased with my purchase. I had purchased an Otterbox Defender case 2 months ago to protect my phone. I have not been able to dock my iphone on my newly purchased Sony speakers for 2 months. It would have been a pain to remove the casing each day to dock/charge my phone everyday. I have been on hunt for dock extender. I called Otterbox; they did not have any recommendations. I went to the Apple store, they directed me to the internet. I looked online at Amazon.

When I received the extender it did not fit the insertion point on otterbox case at first. Just as another reviewer noted on another review / through 'youtube' the device would need to be sanded down a little on each side. I used a nail file to sand down the sides of the extender device enough to allow it to insert through the entry point of the Otterbox case. You can use a sand paper/emeryboard/nail file to sand/file each side of the extender. Within less than 3-5 minutes it worked. It was easy. If I can do it anyone can. Do not fall for the high dollar devices that are out there.

4Bought for 2008 VW GTI  Jun 03, 2010 By M. Jones
The 2008 VW GTI has the old-style iPod connector in it (based on 12Volt Firewire) and the newer iPods won't charge because they need 5Volt USB power.

You need two things to fix it. A 12V to 5V converter, and a short cable (this item).

So I bought this cable and the Scosche 5V iPod power adapter Scosche passPORT Charging Adapter for iPod touch 2G, 3G; iPod nano 4G; iPhone 3G (Black). Together these two items solve my iPod plug/power problem.

The only thing I don't like is the locking connector. You must press the sides of the connector together in order to release the plug from the iPod... so no pull-and-run. More of a "find the hidden flush connectors, squeeze, then run"

For those who have noticed that the iPod won't turn on when you turn on your VW/Audi - it can be solved. Plug the 5V Scosche into the car connector first, then the cable, and finally the iPod. So: VW(car) -> Scosche -> RadTech Cable -> iPod. Everything works great. The 5V is transmitted through the cable and this turns on the iPod.

Awesome - no more dead iPod! All of the features work.

PS - my local VW dealer showed me a new all-in-one cable/5V converter that just came out. I don't know the details, just the following info (probably a VW part):

Item Number: 000051443C $32.00
Universal 12V to 5V iPod® Cable Adapter

1Does not work with iHome alarm clock  Sep 20, 2010 By E. Bristor
Plugged into the iHome alarm clock, and into a 3rd gen iPod Touch, it does exactly nothing. The iPod doesn't recognize that a cable is attached.
The cord appears not to be defective, because I can use it as an extender through a USB-to-Apple cord.
The iHome works with the cord, the cord works with another cord, but they don't work together. I'm not sure what to conclude about this, but I won't buy another of either.
